The work I do centers on the weaving together of personal history and metaphor. It is an exploration of the metaphorical capacity inherent in people, places and things. Objects take on meaning through time and use. Faces age and hold a multitude of experiences within. Images point beyond themselves to a larger context. They become ideas, serve as symbols of a time period, a movement, a philosophy. Within the picture plane, images coexist with abstraction. Structure manifests itself through fields of color and pattern. The images rendered affect one another on the work’s surface to form a narrative. The structure refers to inextricable links, a piecing together, an interconnectedness of elements. The surfaces strike a balance between impulse and restraint, natural erosion and precise draftsmanship. The work is both celebratory and intimate, articulating an inner world and the nurturing power of time.
